One needs not live in Rio de Janeiro to attend the premiere of “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol.”

Paramount Pictures and Coke Zero will stream the live red carpet event online beginning 2 p.m. MST on Dec. 14, which will include a performance by Grammy-nominated DJ and producer Tiësto of his brand new re-mix of the famed “Mission: Impossible” theme song, written by Lalo Schifren. View said stream in the column to the left of this article.

In “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol,” the fourth installment in the film's franchise, Tom Cruise returns as Ethan Hunt who, when the IMF is implicated in a global terrorist plot and shut down, goes under cover and off the grid with his team (Jeremy Renner, Paula Patton and Simon Pegg) to clear the organization's name.

The film's stars, director Brad Bird and other special celebrity guests will be on hand for live interviews with hosts Quddus and Carla Lamarca. Viewers will also have the opportunity to ask cast and crew members questions via Livestream's chat function while experiencing highlights from the film's global tour.

Developer Funtactix has announced that its Facebook Mission Impossible Facebook video game will get an expansion called Ghost Protocol that will be linked to the upcoming movie with the same name that will be launched in the middle of December.

The content is created by the developers with direct input from Paramount Pictures and will allow players to experience a story that comes ahead of the events seen in the movie, meeting characters and using gadgets from the film.

There are 40 new missions for players to enjoy, experience and complete, with 20 new characters to interact with and develop.

Mission Impossible also gets new weapons and new gadgets, 20 of them, that will both boost stats for character and will offer new abilities.

The game also delivers a new boss fight that will challenge the special operations abilities of all those engaged with the Mission Impossible video game.

Paramount has released two new clips for Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol.  The primary purpose seems to be to highlight the new character played by Jeremy Renner.  In one clip, Renner banters capably with Simon Pegg; in the next, he gets in on the action in a scene aptly titled “Fan Jump.”  In the footage we’ve seen so far, Renner fits in well in the Mission: Impossible world.  That spells good things for this movie, obviously, but is especially good news since it was rumored early on that Renner may assume the lead in future Mission: Impossible films.

Focusing on the present, Tom Cruise is still the headliner of what looks to be one of the more entertaining releases this holiday season. Paula Patton, Josh Holloway, Michael Nyqvist, Lea Seydoux, and Tom Wilkinson join Renner and Pegg in the supporting cast.  Directed by Brad Bird, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol opens on December 16.  Watch the clips after the break.

What do I know about Brad Bird‘s Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol?  I know this: Tom Cruise really likes his hoodie.  That hoodie could be this movie’s MacGuffin.  The entire plot could revolve around getting Ethan Hunt a fasionable piece of outwear.  Yes, the official synopsis says the movie is about the IMF being disbanded and hunted down, but I think that hoodie is key.  It is the most important hoodie in the history of cinema.

Paramount Pictures has released five new TV spots from Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, which was produced by Mission: Impossible III director J.J. Abrams, who also helped co-write the movie’s story with Josh Appelbaum, Andre Nemec and Christopher McQuarrie.

Ghost Protocol sees Tom Cruise return as agent Ethan Hunt just in time to be disavowed and blamed for a terrorist bombing of the Kremlin. Hunt assembles his team (Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg, and Paula Patton), going undercover to reclaim the reputation of the entire Impossible Mission Force. The Incredibles director Brad Bird makes his live-action debut in the sequel.

Josh Holloway (Lost), Vladimir Mashkov (Behind Enemy Lines), Michael Nyqvist (The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo), and Anil Kapoor (Slumdog Millionaire) co-star.

Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol drops into theaters on December 21st, 2011.
